SkinAI
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 September 2026
1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SkinAI handles personal information when you use the SkinAI website and skin scan.
SkinAI provides general appearance-based skincare guidance using a photograph you choose to upload and information you provide through the skincare questionnaire.
2. Information we use
When you use a SkinAI scan, we may process:
- the facial photograph you choose to upload;
- your answers about your skin, sensitivity, goals and budget;
- the skincare analysis and recommendations generated from that information;
- limited technical information required to operate, protect and troubleshoot the website.
Please do not provide information that is unnecessary for receiving your skincare result.
3. Why we use your information
Your photograph and questionnaire answers are used to provide the SkinAI scan you request.
This can include visible skin observations, skincare priorities, routine suggestions, ingredient guidance and product recommendations.
SkinAI does not use your photograph to identify who you are or for facial-recognition purposes.
4. Photo consent
Before a photograph is submitted for analysis, SkinAI asks you to actively confirm that you agree to your photograph and questionnaire answers being processed to create your result.
The consent box is not pre-selected. If you do not agree, the photograph is not submitted for SkinAI analysis.
5. How your scan is handled
The current SkinAI scan uses your browser's session storage to temporarily move your photograph, questionnaire answers and result through the scan experience.
SkinAI does not currently operate a user-account database that intentionally stores uploaded scan photographs permanently.
Your photograph and relevant questionnaire information are sent securely to the SkinAI server when an analysis is requested.
6. AI processing
SkinAI currently uses OpenAI technology to generate the AI portion of your skincare result.
This means your submitted photograph and relevant questionnaire answers are sent to OpenAI's API for processing.
OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train or improve its models by default.
7. Service providers
SkinAI relies on third-party providers where necessary to operate the service.
These can include providers for:
- AI processing;
- website hosting and deployment;
- domain and DNS services;
- security and technical infrastructure.
These providers may process limited information where required to provide their services.
8. How long information is kept
SkinAI aims to keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected.
The current version of SkinAI does not intentionally save uploaded scan photographs in a permanent SkinAI user database.
Your browser may temporarily retain scan information during your session.
Third-party service providers may apply their own security, logging and retention requirements when processing information on our behalf.
9. Sharing and selling information
SkinAI does not sell your uploaded facial photograph or questionnaire answers.
Information may be shared where reasonably necessary to operate SkinAI, including with the service providers described in this policy, or where disclosure is required by law.
10. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable data-protection law, you may have rights relating to your personal information.
These may include the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate information;
- request deletion in certain circumstances;
- restrict certain processing;
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw consent where consent is relied upon for processing.
Some rights may not apply where SkinAI no longer holds information that can reasonably be linked back to you.
11. Security
SkinAI uses HTTPS encryption on the public website and takes reasonable technical steps intended to protect information while it is transmitted and processed.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security, so please avoid submitting unnecessary private information.
12. Children
SkinAI is not intended for children under 13 to submit personal information independently.
If you are under 13, please do not submit a photograph through SkinAI without appropriate involvement from a parent or guardian.
Additional age-appropriate protections may be introduced as SkinAI develops.
13. Complaints
If you have a privacy concern, please contact SkinAI first so we can try to resolve it.
You may also have the right to raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner's Office or another relevant supervisory authority.
14. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as SkinAI develops, introduces new features, changes service providers or changes how information is processed.
The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date.
